There are many places within a short distance that will make your stay in Watch Hill that much more enjoyable.
The Mystic Aquarium
This is a great activity for a rainy or sunny day. Close by, along with the Mystic Seaport, and numerous other museums/sites, the Mystic Aquarium is fun for the whole family. Dr. Robert Ballard's Institute for Exploration is a new exhibit set up by the man who discovered the Titanic. You can also see the Marine Animal Rescue Team and hundreds of sea animals. This is definitely an experience you will not want to miss.
The Watch Hill Flying Horse Carousel is located less than two minutes away from Watch Hill Court. Situated next to Saint Claire's Annex, a well known ice cream shop, the Carousel is the oldest "flying horse" carousel in America. It is still in operation today. According to legend, the Carousel was left behind after a traveling carnival deserted Watch Hill. During the 1938 Hurricane sand packed in around the horses, and kept it intact. This is why the carousel still exists today, while virtually the rest of Watch Hill was demolished. This is a fantastic experience for children, who attempt to catch the "Brass Ring."
Watch Hill Lighthouse Lighthouse a 10 minute walk away
During the French and Indian Wars Watch Hill served as a "watch tower" for French Privateers. On January 22, 1806 a lighthouse was finally put on the dangerous reef. To this day that same lighthouse stands on the hill formerly known as "Bear Hill". However, it is private property and the residents would appreciate it if all visitors remain behind the gates.
